Several Scottsbluff schools went into lockout mode Monday afternoon after police received a report of a shot being fired in the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue.
Police talked with witnesses, and determined the sound came from the alley between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. Officers searched the area, but did not find any evidence of a gunshot and did not find any pyrotechnic devices.
Officers did find an item that could have been the source of the sound, and that item was removed from the alley. There were no injuries or damage reported.
The location is a block from both Saint Agnes School and Bluffs Middle School. The School Resource Officer heard the initial shot fired call, recognized the close proximity to the schools, and as a precaution requested that the schools be placed in lockout.
The schools stayed in lockout until police had cleared the scene. There was not a direct threat to the schools.
