Special Olympics Nebraska and the local committee including our regional law enforcement organizations are joining in Airport Appreciation Day with a unique opportunity for our community to support special Olympic Athletes.
Saturday June 2 is the 19th annual Airport Appreciation Day at the Western Nebraska Regional Airport, sponsored by the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association. This event draws 2,500 to 3,000 people.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says this year teams will pull a 50 passenger, CRJ-200 jet aircraft provided by SkyWest Airlines – who operates as United Express, Western Nebraska Regional Airport’s newest air travel carrier.
Teams with a maximum of 10 persons, $20 a person. Overman says no pre-registration is required. Just show up with your team and registration begins at 10 a.m., they begin pulling the airplane at 11.
Overman says the teams will pull the airplane 15 feet over an electronically timed course. The team that pulls the airplane in the shortest time is the event champion, and will be awarded with a nice trophy.
