Scottsbluff, Nebraska -4/27/18- The Fliesbach Family Foundation has announced that Sara Gingerich of Potter, NE is the recipient of the Barbara Fliesbach McAlister $1000.00 scholarship for 2018.
The Fliesbach scholarship may be used at any junior college, four-year college, university or trade school with an accredited art department.
Sara graduated from Potter-Dix High School in May of 2016. She is currently enrolled at Western Nebraska Community College and is working on her associates degree. She plans to continue her education in Graphic Design and has also started her own photography business.
Most recently, Sara participated in a group exhibit in the Bronson Gallery at the West Nebraska Arts Center in January and February of 2017 and will be exhibiting in May and June of 2018.
Along with photography, she enjoys working in acrylic, colored pencil, oil pastel and more.
West Nebraska Arts Center Program Manager, Maria Lena Soto says, “We are excited to award thisyoung lady with the Fliesbach Scholarship, her talent is outstanding and we look forward to seeing hergrow.”
Sara shared her thoughts on what purposes art serves in her life. “Art brings a sense of joy andaccomplishment to me. Art has been essential to my life since I was young and will forever be a part of
my daily life. Not only has it been a great inspiration tool for me, but I have also been able to help otherswith my talent,” she says.
Barbara Fliesbach McAlister was born in Nevada in 1918. She grew up in Scottsbluff, NE being raised by her aunt and uncle, Harry and Grace Weybright Fliesbach. She attended Pasadena City College,
majoring in art. She also studied ballet and performed in several productions. Barbara was a gifted artist and studied watercolors with Milford Zornes, well-known watercolorist and teacher.
