NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer another Heart Code – BLS for Healthcare Provider Online & Skills Session course, beginning soon.

The first portion of this course (HLTH 5300/18S & CRN #70235) is web-based and is available on-line
24 hours a day. The skills session meets Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., in Room 234 of the Ag/Allied Health building on the Norfolk campus.

The Basic Life Support course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking. This course is designed for the first time or renewal certification and has two parts for completion.

Part 1 provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Part 2 is a skills session where hands on practice and competency testing are completed with a Certified AHA Instructor. When online Part 1 is completed, students will register for the Skills Sessions. Participants are to bring their online completion certificate (Part 1 completed within the last 60 days) to the Skills Session for which they have registered.

Online key codes for Part 1 are available at the Hawks Shop in the Student Center on the Norfolk campus, (402) 844-7140. NOTE: Participants need to bring their AHA Part 1 Health Care Provider Online Course Completion Certificate to be admitted to the Skills Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions – Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/18S & CRN #70217); Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/18S & CRN #70222); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/18S & CRN #70212) will be held Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Norfolk campus Student Center, (402)-844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in June

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/18S & CRN #70234) will be held Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 232 of the Ag/Allied Health Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Trever O’Brien the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/18S & CRN #70240) will be held Wednesday, June 13, from 6-10 p.m. in Room 101 of the Arlo Worth Building.

Designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals, this course is designed to refresh skills related to recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, providing CPR, using an AED and relieving choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their current certification card to the class.

The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop at the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Microsoft Excel courses in June.

Microsoft Excel 2016 Level 1 (INFO 5115/18F & CRN #70546) will meet Tuesday and Thursday, June 5 and 7, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room 127 of the Maclay Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this course, students will use Microsoft Excel to analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheet, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease and use simple functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Microsoft Excel 2016 Level 2 (INFO 5315/18S & CRN #70549) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, June 19 and 21, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the same location.

In this intermediate level course, participants will discover how to streamline and enhance their spreadsheets using templates, charts, graphics and formulas. They will learn to use multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently, work with more advanced formatting options and complex formulas, discover how to link cells, create tables and outlines as well as use hyperlinks.

Cost for each course, with Stacy Anderson the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer two courses for teenagers on DSLR photography, beginning soon.

Digital Photography 101 For Youth (ARTS 5105/18S & CRN #70608) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, June 5 and 7, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 120 of the Utility Line Building, just east of the Norfolk campus on Benjamin Avenue.

This course is designed to help teenagers understand and get more out of their DSLR cameras. Full of tips, tricks and hands-on demonstrations, this class will provide an understanding of aperture, ISO, shutter speed, white balance and more. Participants will also explore different editing style and develop awareness of compositional soundness in photographs.

Digital Photography For Youth – Expand Your Knowledge (ARTS 5305/18S & CRN #70609) will be held Tuesday and Thursday, June 12 and 14, at the same time and in the same location.

This class will let students’ creative sides come to life. They will learn the basic terminology and processes associated with shooting in manual mode, and they will also learn how to take better pictures by using compositions techniques. In-class discussions and hands-on learning will be used throughout the class.

These classes are suitable for students ages 14 and older. Participants are asked to bring their own DSLR cameras and manuals to class.

NORFOLK – A new course at Northeast Community College will celebrate the summer season with a Fourth of July decoration class.

Fourth of July Flag (HOEC 5135/18S & CRN #70575) will be held Tuesday, June 5, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this fun and interactive class, participants will create a Fourth of July flag for display that they paint and customize themselves. Instructor Sue Strathman will show participants the process of assembling the boards and creating the wooden flag in addition to offering some quick and easy painting techniques and effects to try.

All supplies are included in the cost of the class, and participants will take home their decorations to display in their own homes. Cost is $32.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning next month.

The course (TRDR 5100/18S & CRN #70061/70062) will be held Monday-Friday, June 6-July 18, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, across from Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer a class on smartphone photography for all ages, beginning soon.

Smartphone Photography for All Ages (ARTS 5110/18S & CRN #70598) will be held Wednesday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 120 of the Utility Line Building, just east of the Norfolk campus on Benjamin Avenue.

This class will teach participants the basics of smartphone photography. They will learn to take great photos with their phones, what editing apps to use, how to share and print images and also keep them safe.

This class is for participants of all ages; however, those ten years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are asked to bring their smartphones and chargers with them to class.

Cost of the class, with Elley Coffin the instructor, is $20.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a new, 90-hour course on two forms of arc welding, beginning next month.

Gas Metal (MIG) & Flux Cored Arc Welding (WELD 5115/18S & CRN #70601) will meet Monday through Friday, June 7-25, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in Room 101B of the Weller Building.

Students will gain a technical understanding of gas metal arc welding (MIG) and flux-cored arc welding. They will be instructed on welding safety, equipment adjustments, metal transfer and shielding gases. They will gain proficiency in gas-shielded and metal core procedures. Welding will be done in all positions on thin gauge to thick mild steel carbon material, single and multiple pass, fillet and groove welds. The course will also provide an understanding of oxyacetylene cutting as well as safety practices in cutting. Time will be dedicated to MIG welding of aluminum in various positions.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to perform production and maintenance welding, structural welding and other related medium to heavy-duty manufacturing welding. Qualification testing will be conducted in accordance with the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Welding Code.

Two books are required for the class and can be purchases at the Hawks Shop, located in the Northeast Student Center, or by calling (402) 844-7140.
