Northeast Community College in Norfolk is offering a number of classes that start this month. Class information can be found below:

 

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will hold a course soon dedicated to the study and application of the knowledge and skills necessary for an individual to become and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

EMT Part 1, (EMTL 1840/18A & CRN #30547) will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, May -21-June 28, from 5:30-10 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 105, on the Norfolk campus.

This course is dedicated to the study and application of the knowledge and skills necessary for an individual to become an Emergency Medical Technician and provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service.

The course will include the first half of the applications/skills needed to apply for licensure as an EMT in the State of Nebraska. After successful completion of this course and EMT Part 2 (EMTL1845), the student will be eligible to apply to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) cognitive examination. Once the student has passed both the cognitive and practical skills examinations of the NREMT he/she can apply to obtain an EMT license in the State of Nebraska.

This class contains the current information found in the National EMS Education Standards as outlined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Student must have current CPR certification, American Heart Association-Healthcare Provider Level or equivalent.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College has added a course to its schedule that invites participants to discover marketing strategies for two popular social media platforms.

Social Media Marketing – Introduction to Facebook & Twitter (INFO 5155/18S & CRN #70573) meets Tuesday and Thursday, May 22 and 24, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

Participants will discover how to use optimal social media strategies with detailed explanations and hands-on activities. They will also gain an understanding of the most useful quantitative social media measurements to estimate the return on investment for a given organization or business.

Cost of the course, with Jerrett Mills the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College’s will hold two sessions of a new course soon that will introduce learners to photo editing with Adobe Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom Photo Editing will be offered twice. The first session (ARTS 5190/18S & CRN #70596) will be held Wednesday, May 23, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus. The second option ARTS 5190/18S & CRN #60060) will meet on Tuesday, June 19, at the same time and location.

Participants will learn to perform editing and image processing and share their best images in a variety of creative ways. The class uses a hands-on approach, and all participants are asked to bring 10 of their photos to class on a flash drive as well as their own cameras. Instructor Elley Coffin will show participants some simple how-tos as they edit their own personal photos.

Cost of the class is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a class on decluttering later this month.

Living Life in 3-D (HOEC 5190/18S & CRN #70574) meets on Wednesday, May 23, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

In this class, participants will learn about the three “D”s to increased happiness: delete, downsize and delegation. Through simple tactics, they will learn to declutter their lives and decrease the risk of depression. They will learn how to organize their homes and acquire skills that can be used immediately, like folding clothes in a certain way to increase storage space.

Cost of the class, with Tina Collison the instructor, is $20.

NORFOLK –Northeast Community College will offer an additional course option later this month for those interested in learning the basics of motorcycle riding.

Motorcycle Rider Course (TRAN 5105/18S & CRN #70055/70056) will be offered Friday through Sunday, May 25-27. Hours on Friday will be 6:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7:50 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday 7:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Classes will be held in Room 103 in the Northeast Community College Utility Line building, just east of the main campus on Benjamin Avenue.

The class includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding instruction. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking. Then it moves on to more advance street riding strategies. Professionally trained instructors teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.

Within 30 days of the completing the course, students are required to take the MSF Basic eCourse. Details regarding this course will be sent to students after they register for the Motorcycle Rider Course. There is no additional cost for the mandatory eCourse.

Cost of the course, with Tom Broekemeier, Michael Holcomb, Taylor Holcomb, James Jones, Keith Neal and Jacob Korinek the instructors, is $250.
