Northeast campuses in Norfolk and Hartington to offer more classes this month

More classes are being offered by Northeast Community College’s Norfolk and Hartington Campuses this month. Class information can be found below:

 

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning later this month.

The course (TRDR 5100/18S & CRN #70031/70032) will be held Monday-Friday, April 16-May 25 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, across from Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. Financial assistance is available through the Community College GAP Assistance Program for students meeting income guidelines. For more information, call (402) 844-7245.

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College’s Hartington regional office will offer a class in Plainview soon on smartphone applications.

Smartphone Applications (INFO 5200/18S & CRN #70451) will meet Monday, April 16, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Plainview Public Library, 209 North Pine Street.

This course will cover the basic usage and applications of using an Android smartphone and IPhone. Anyone who is struggling to use their smartphone and all of its applications is encouraged to enroll.

Cost of the class, with Angela Jenkins the instructor, is $30.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced several free, one-session workshops for emergency medical service technicians during the month of April.

The workshops are offered for three continuing education credits. They will be held from 7-10 p.m. All workshops will be conducted in local fire halls.

There is no need to pre-register. The workshops, dates and locations include:

HARTINGTON – The Hartington regional office of Northeast Community College will offer a digital photography class in Creighton next month.

Digital Photography I (ARTS 5105/18S & CRN #70369) will be held Tuesday, April 17, from 6-9 p.m. at Creighton Public Library, 701 State Street.

Students will learn basic camera function and improve their photography by gaining an understanding of composition and exposure as they take steps toward getting out of auto mode. Students at all levels are encouraged to participate and must bring their own digital cameras.

Cost of the class, with Cassandra Kvols the instructor, is $30.

NORFOLK – A course on cake decorating will be offered by Northeast Community College next month.

Basic Cake Decorating I (HOEC 5180/18S & CRN #70379) will be held Wednesday, April 18, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this beginner level course, participants will use buttercream frosting and a little expertise to turn a basic cake or cupcake into a gorgeous dessert. Participants will receive instruction on how to prepare several different types of buttercream as well as how to prepare all types of cake edging, cupcake swirls, flowers and borders. They will learn key elements to complementing buttercream, including icing cakes, pressure control piping and food color application.

A cake, cupcake and decorating kit (includes tips, spatula, cake scrapers and a flower nail) are included in the cost of the class and can be taken home after the class.

Cost of the class, with Jessica Dvorak the instructor, is $49.
