WEST POINT – Two beginning computer courses will be coming to Northeast Community College in
West Point in October.
Basic Computer I (INFO 5105/17F & CRN #60263) will be held Monday, October 2, from
1-4 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue,
Room 212.
Instructor Diann Ballard will go over beginning computer skills for anyone who has very limited computer knowledge or none at all. Topics will include beginning computer skills, such as powering the computer on and off, using a mouse and keyboard, utilizing the desktop, and launching programs.
Basic Computer II (INFO 5305/17F & CRN #60264) will be held Thursday, October 5, from
1-4 p.m. in the same location.
In this class, Ballard will continue the journey into the world of computers. Students will expand their skills by learning to use a word processor and work with tool and task bars. Performing basic formatting functions and saving and printing documents will also be covered.
Both classes will be taught at a very relaxed pace for those persons apprehensive about operating a computer. There will be significant hands-on practice of each concept.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a course in human resources certification preparation beginning next month.
HR Certification Preparation (BSAD5310/17F & CRN #60353) will be held Thursdays, October 5-November 9, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue, in Room 212 via ITV.
This class will provide instruction in the current Human Resource Management Body of Knowledge as identified by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Participants will engage in discussion and complete questions representative of those likely to be on the HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exam or the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) exams.
This course will be offered via distance learning technology from South Sioux City and is designed to prepare for the certification exam; the actual exam is not conducted in the class. For optimal benefit from the course, students should purchase the “PHR Study Guide 2017” (ISBN: 978-1-63530-133-5, which is available from a number of online retailers.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a three credit Medication Aide class in Wayne beginning next month.
The course (HLTH 1120/17F & CRN #15059) will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, October 2-November 8, from 6-10 p.m. at Brookdale Senior Living, 1500 Vintage Hill Drive, in Wayne. Dani Frahm is the instructor.
This course is designed to prepare students to assume the role and responsibilities of a Medication Aide working in a nursing facility. The course includes information regarding medication administration, pharmacology rules and regulations, classification of drugs, orders, storage abbreviations and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation.
Cost of each class is $340.50 for Nebraska residents. Textbooks are available for purchase for $56.18 at the West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level I (INFO 5115/17F & CRN #60209) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, October 3 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.
In this class, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel as they analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease as well as use functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.
Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level II (INFO 5315/17F & CRN #60212) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, October 17 and 24, at the same time and location.
This course is for those who have been exposed to Excel and its basic commands. Topics covered include creating tables and graphs, working with large worksheets, adding graphics to worksheets, moving and sizing images, using smart art, using and managing multiple worksheets, named ranges and more.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two QuickBooks classes next month.
QuickBooks – Level I (ACCT 5100/17F & CRN #60210) will meet two consecutive Tuesdays, October 3 and 10, from 1-4 p.m. at the Northeast Community College in West Point, 202 Anna Stalp Ave., in Room 212.
This course covers the basics of setting up a company, creating customers, receiving payments and making deposits into bank accounts. Students will work with and create vendors and paying bills. They will also create and edit a chart of accounts for a company, run reports and reconcile bank accounts.
QuickBooks – Level II (ACCT 5300/17F & CRN #60213) will be held two consecutive Tuesdays, October 17 and 24, from 1-4 p.m. in the same location.
This course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. They will also create capital assets, utilize the loan manager and create an amortization schedule. Dealing with bad debt and creating journal entries will also be covered.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class on web page developing using Google Sites, beginning soon.
Web Page Development Using Google (INFO 5240/17F & CRN #60265) will meet Wednesday, October 4, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Ave.
In this course, participants will create a webpage for their business, job or family using Google Sites. They will learn to insert images, text and links as well as how to share the site with additional editors to make updating easier. Creating multiple pages, publishing and embedding a calendar, YouTube video or map from Google will also be covered.
Once the class is done, participants can continue to update their websites on their own and use their own images to create a personalized site.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point has added two yoga classes to its upcoming schedule.
Yoga – Slow Flow Method (HPER 5100/17F & CRN #60182) will meet for four Wednesday sessions, October 4-25, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Nielsen Community Center in West Point.
This class is a great way to slow breathing, body and mind after a busy day. It will blend smooth transitions, steady breathing and holding postures.
Yoga – Synergy Style! (HPER 5100/17F & CRN #60183) will meet on the same days at the same location from 8-9 p.m.
Synergy yoga is for those who want to take their yoga to a new level. Quick flows that fuse power and breathing together will be the focus of the class.
For both classes, some yoga mats will be provided, although participants are asked to bring their own if they have one. All participants should bring a water bottle and dress in comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement. Dressing in layers is encouraged.

NORFOLK – An initials painting class is coming to Northeast Community College later this month.
Initials Painting (ARTS 5163/17F & CRN #60194) will be held Tuesday, October 3, from 6-9 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.
In this class, students will create an acrylic on canvas of a chosen initial or favorite letter. They will also learn about and choose from various background designs, including chevron, smooth color gradient, textured blending and more. Each initial painting will also include two design elements participants can customize to their personal styles and preferences. Instructor Heather Gates will share various painting techniques and design ideas.
Supplies will be provided and are included in the cost of the course. Cost of the class is $35.

NORFOLK – A class for new iPad owners will be held soon at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.
Apple iPad: Lessons for Beginners (INFO 5160/17F & CRN #60037) will be held Tuesday, October 3, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center.
This class is designed for anyone who needs to learn the basics of iPad ownership. Participants will learn how to use the iPad for emailing, browsing the web, getting directions, taking photos and more.
For both classes, participants will need to bring their own fully charged iPad and know their Apple ID and password.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a pediatric life support class in October
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (HLTH 5510/17F & CRN #60081) will meet Wednesday and Thursday, October 4 and 5, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Ave., in Norfolk.
This class will provide health care professionals with the knowledge to prevent and recognize cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. Participants will perform cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in cardiopulmonary arrest.
This course has the following pre-requisites: a review of the manual and completion of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) pre-course online self-assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring it to class, along with a current Basic Life Support CPR card.

NORFOLK – A new crafting course beginning soon at Northeast Community College will welcome the fall season with a Halloween-themed mesh wreath.
Spooktacular Halloween Wreath (HOEC 5135/17F & CRN #60412) will be held Thursday, September 28, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.
In this course, participants will make a mesh wreath in black, purple and orange with Halloween-themed embellishments. The process is simple to learn and fun to complete, and participants will be ready to hang the wreaths on their doors at the conclusion of the class.
Cost of the class, with Sue Strathman the instructor, is $25. All supplies are included.

HARTINGTON – The Hartington regional office of Northeast Community College will offer a cupcake decorating class next month.
Cupcakes 101 (HOEC 5100/17F & CRN #60405) will be held Monday, October 2, from 6-9 p.m. at the Hartington City Library, 106 S. Broadway Ave.
In this course, participants will learn how to decorate cupcakes like those seen in cupcake stores. They will learn how to make icing, which tools to use, how to use the tool properly and how to decorate cupcakes using swirls and other designs.
Equipment and ingredients are provided, and participants will take home their own set of decorated cupcakes.

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College in Hartington will offer an intermediate computer class for Windows 10 beginning soon.
Intermediate Computer II – Windows 10 (INFO 5310/17F & CRN #60310) will be held Wednesday, October 4, from 6-9 p.m., at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools, 501 S. Broadway Avenue, in Hartington.
Participants will build upon their intermediate computer skills as they explore and use the Windows 10 operating system. Concepts will include how to size windows and back up files as well as save to a CD, flash drive or external hard drive. Students will also learn to surf the web. This class is for the learner who has some previous computer knowledge.

Photo Memory Book Using Shutterfly (ARTS 5145/17F & CRN #60397) will meet Tuesday, October 3, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Hartington City Library, 106 S. Broadway Ave.
Digital photo books are the new way to cherish and preserve memories. Join Instructor Stephanie McBride as you explore, create and design in the Shutterfly website. Participants are asked to have a Shutterfly account set up prior to class time.
