Classes will be offered in late September at Northeast Community College’s Campuses in West Point, Norfolk, and Hartington. Class information can be found below:

 

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College in Hartington will a class this month on making a fall-themed wood pallet decoration.

Wood Pallet Holiday Decorations: Reversible Scarecrow/Pilgrim (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60345) will meet Thursday, September 20, from 6-9 p.m. at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools, 501 S. Broadway Ave., in Hartington.

In this class, students will get into the autumn spirit by making a simple and attractive fall-themed decoration for the home. Using wood pallets, paint and a little creativity, participants will create a reversible scarecrow/pilgrim decoration. In this fun an interactive class, Instructor Russell Flamig will walk participants through the planning and construction stages. They will assemble and paint their holiday projects in class.

All materials are included in the class’s cost, which is $40.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will soon be the site of a pre-hospital emergency care course designed for nurses.

Pre-Hospital Emergency Care for Nurses (EMTL 1825/18F & CRN #15480), will meet September 23-October 25, on Thursdays, 6:30-10:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1-7 p.m., in Room 103 of the Arlo Wirth Building on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Sponsored by the Allied Health department, the course is designed for an existing Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse who wishes to act as an EMT provider on a volunteer, paid rescue or transport service, according to rules and regulations from Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure-EMS Division. Students must be current RNs or LPNs.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning later this month.

The course (TRDR 5100/18F & CRN #60032/60033) will be held Monday-Friday, September 24-November 2, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, across from Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will be the site of a Paramedic Refresher course, sponsored by the Allied Health Department.

This course (EMTN 6295/18F & CRN #60328), will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 25-27, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

This is a 24-hour refresher training course that fulfills required content for recertification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic.

The cost of the class is $180 and includes a lunch buffet for the three days.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer two continuing education courses for insurance professionals later this month.

Insurance: Duties of the Agent (38602-NE; 103043-IA) (INSU 5260/18F & CRN #60309) will be held on Wednesday, September 26, in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

This course will delve into four case studies where ethical and legal implications are a factor. Topics covered include social media blunders, challenging customer claims and managing client relations. The class offers three continuing educations hours – ethics.

Insurance: The Elements of Contractual Risk Transfer (35970-NE; 86899-IA (INSU 5265/18F & CRN #60310) will be held Wednesday, September 26, from 1-4 p.m. in the same location.

The liability of signing a contract has an impact on the business and the insurance risk. In this course, participants will review contract language and discuss the risk exposure that can be created and/or transferred to the business customer. The class offers three continuing education hours – property/casualty.

Laurie VanderWal is the instructor for both courses. Cost for each is $45.

HARTINGTON – Northeast Community College’s Hartington regional office will offer a class on smartphone applications in September.

Smartphone Applications (INFO 5200/18F & CRN #60346) will meet Thursday, September 27, from 6-9 p.m. at US Cellular in Hartington, which is located inside Pearson Motor Company at 104 Industrial Park Street.

This course will cover the basic usage and applications of using an Android smartphone and IPhone. Anyone who is struggling to use their smartphone and all of its applications is encouraged to enroll.

Cost of the class, with Angela Jenkins the instructor, is $30.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a new class soon for dads struggling to style their daughters’ hair.

Daddy Does Hair (HORC 5140/18F & CRN #60191) will be held Thursday, September 27, from 7-9 p.m. in Room 211 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

This course is ideal for fathers who need to style their daughters’ hair but aren’t sure where to begin. Participants will learn how to properly take care of hair as well as learn different techniques, from brushing to pony tails. A hands-on component with models will also be part of the class.

Cost for the course, with Terri Johnson the instructor, is $20.

NORFOLK -Northeast Community College will offer an additional course option later this month for those interested in learning the basics of motorcycle riding.

Motorcycle Rider Course (TRAN 5105/18F & CRN #60018/60019) will be offered Friday through Sunday, September 28-30. Hours on Friday will be 6:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7:50 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday 7:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Classes will be held in Room 103 in the Northeast Community College Utility Line building, just east of the main campus on Benjamin Avenue.

The class includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding instruction. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking. Then it moves on to more advance street riding strategies. Professionally trained instructors teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.

Within 30 days of the completing the course, students are required to take the MSF Basic eCourse. Details regarding this course will be sent to students after they register for the Motorcycle Rider Course. There is no additional cost for the mandatory eCourse.

Cost of the course, with Michael Holcomb, Taylor Holcomb, Roger Nelson, Keith Neal and Jacob Korinek the instructors, is $250.
