High Speed Chase Ends In Crash In Stanton County

At about 8:00 p.m. on Friday night the Stanton County Sheriff’s office received a call of a reckless driver westbound on Hwy 275 near Pilger.  Several 911 calls on the vehicle indicated it was driving all over the roadway and near the Hwy 57 junction a Stanton County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the 2007 Ford sedan.

The vehicle sped up and refused to stop and continued westbound on Hwy 275 at speeds of more than 100 mph.  An attempt to use a tire deflation device near 558th avenue was unsuccessful due to the high speeds of the fleeing vehicle.  The lone driver continued westbound and lost control of his vehicle at the Hwy 275 and Hwy 24 junction and left the roadway into the northwest ditch before coming to rest.

The driver initially refused to cooperate and was finally taken into custody at gunpoint by numerous law enforcement officers from the Stanton and Madison County Sheriff’s offices and Norfolk Police Division.

The driver was identified as Douglas  Hall, 30, of Norfolk and he now faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated-3rd offense, Felony Operation of a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Driving During Revocation for DWI, Willful Reckless Driving, and an Open Container of Alcohol Violation.

This was the fifth arrest for DWI on Hall’s record. Hall did suffer injuries in the crash and was taken to FRHS by Norfolk Fire/Rescue for treatment.
