Kicking off the renovation and expansion of the Visitor Center at Scotts Bluff National Monument, the public is invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, December 12th at 9:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

December 12th is the anniversary of the founding of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Founded in 1919, Scotts Bluff National Monument has served the Gering/Scottsbluff community and visitors from all over the world as a place of historical reverence, ecological significance, and cultural importance. Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony we will move inside to unveil our specially designed 2019 Centennial logo. We look forward to encouraging the public to participate in centennial events in 2019 at Scotts Bluff National Monument and throughout the community.

Construction is slated to begin the second week of January and last approximately 9 – 12 months. During this time, visitor service and retail operations will be based out of a temporary trailer across the parking lot from the Visitor Center. Throughout construction the park film will be offered. The sales area and access to the trails and Summit Road will also be available.
