The Gering Planning Commission and City Council held a joint meeting Monday night to kick start a one year effort to develop a new comprehensive plan and review zoning ordinances.
Consultants Matt Ashby with Ayres Associates and Dave Knopick with dPlanit say the plan will not only provide the city’s vision for the next twenty years but outline how will they get there. The document will also highlight the city’s assets and weaknesses, try to solve challenges the city faces and provide consistency in zoning.
Ashby says they will try to get public input at a town hall meeting but also talk to folks at informal settings as well such as coffee shops and celebrations like Oregon Trail days
Ashby says they want their review of zoning ordinances to be concise and provide clarity for developers and others looking to invest in the community.
The comprehensive plan has not been updated since 1995.
