The former President/ GM of Prairie Sky Seeds Inc. in Hemingford has been sentenced to 10 to 18 years in prison for stealing more than $800,000 from the company.
On Monday morning, District Judge Travis O’Gorman sentenced 52-year-old Brad Hansen of Alliance to 10 to 18 years on one conviction of Forgery and 10 to 18 years on a conviction of Theft. The two sentences will run concurrently.
Court documents say that Hansen took checks that were made out to Prairie Sky Seeds and either altered or changed the payee to ‘Brad Hansen.’
A Nebraska State Patrol investigation revealed that the scheme had began in the spring of 2015, and dozens of checks totaling $802,789.03 had been deposited into Hansen’s personal checking account at Wells Fargo Bank in Alliance.
Hansen was arrested last spring, and pleaded no contest to the charges in January. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Hansen will reimburse Prairie Sky Seeds $400,100 and relinquish all ownership interests in the company as well.
Hansen will be eligible for parole in five years, and if he doesn’t lose any good time, he could be mandatory discharged in nine years.
