Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug says a diseased heart was the apparent cause of death on Saturday of 3-year old Damion Neidert of Chadron.
Our affiliate KCSR radio in Chadron reports the boy was found not breathing in his home about 11:00 Saturday morning and pronounced dead at the scene.
Haug says an investigation at the scene and interviews with both witnesses and medical professionals, including a consultation with State Epidemiologist Dr Tom Safranke at the state health lab, pointed toward natural causes.
Specifically miocarditis, an inflamation of the heart muscle generally caused by a viral or bacterial condition.
Although he’s confident in the conclusion, he has ordered additional testing to help determine just what caused Neidert’s miocarditis.
Funeral services for Damion Neidert, age 3 will be tomorrow (Friday) at 2:00 PM at the Chadron Christian Church.
