The Longs Peak Council, Boy Scouts of America is hosting the annual Tri-Trails District Distinguished Citizens Dinner this (Thursday) evening, to honor Neal and Lora Blomenkamp of Scottsbluff with the Distinguished Citizen Award.

The Blomenkamps have been involved in well over a dozen groups or causes over the years, including Boy Scouts.

Neal Blomenkamp told KNEB News that scouting is something that had a big impact on him as a child. Blomenkamp said, “Lora and I were very surprised and very honored when they asked us to participate. Scouting is a great thing for a lot of kids, both for boys and girls. I was a scout when I was a young boy. My dad was a cub-master, my mother a den mother, so every Monday I remember going to scouts. Scouting was a highlight in my youth.”

The group is also honoring Dylan Horton, from Boy Scout Troop 216 in Alliance tonight with the Distinguished Scout Award.

Tonight’s event will be held at the Gering Civic Center at 6 with dinner and the program starting at 6:30.
