A local man escapes serious injuries after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Around 3:30 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 26 and Highland Road for a car versus bicyclist accident.

Trooper Wallace with the Nebraska State Patrol says that a black Volkswagen Beetle driven by 71-year-old May Propp of Minatare was attempting to make a left-hand from Highland Road on to Highway 26. At the same time, 28-year-old Cody Leathermon of Scottsbluff was biking through the intersection and was struck by Propp.

Trooper Wallace says Leathermon was transported to Regional West with “minor” injuries and he was conscious and alert. As of 7:30 p.m. Leathermon was not listed in the hospital’s directory and his condition is unknown.

A citation for Propp for failure to yield a left turn is pending.
