An engine fire likely leading to some anxious moments for those on board a tour bus passing through the Panhandle Thursday morning.

NSP officials say the bus was on Highway 71 south of Crawford at the time the blaze started.

The 10 passengers plus driver evacuated the bus safely, and were taken by law enforcement to accommodations in Alliance for the night, while farmers from the area transported their luggage and other belongings to the motel.

Dawes County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the Crawford and Hemingford Fire Departments also responded to the scene.
